We were delighted to have Declan here with us yesterday. The theme of this years program is Climate Change. We were learning about the seas, fishing, pollution and the impact of plastic waste on our environment.
We all can make a difference when it comes to reducing, reusing and recycling plastic!
Last Tuesday, the senior room pupils were delighted to welcome former teacher in this school, Bernadette Conroy who came to talk to the children about her new book ‘Wakes on the shore’. A book about life on Inishturk South. Bernadette worked on the island and wrote about her experience there and the experience of others on the island. It was a very interesting talk and many of the children learnt that they had relations connected to Inishturk. Bernadette also wrote a lovely book called ‘Strands of Omey’s Story’, another interesting book about life on Omey island. It is wonderful to have this books to remember the local history around us. We are very grateful to Bernadette for making the time to come and talk to us.
We had a busy day in the kitchen making pancakes to celebrate Pancake Tuesday. We followed a simple recipe: 1 cup of flour, 1 cup of milk and one egg. When they were cooked we had a choice of toppings- Nutella was the winner!
We were delighted to have Declan Holmes with us today as part of The Whalen Foundation Science Program. Declan did an interesting lesson with us and we learned a lot about carbon footprints and how we can improve our own carbon footprint.
Congratulations to Catherine Conneely and Gerard O’Toole on winning our Parents Association raffle hampers
We had fun today baking ‘Valentines Buns’ for all of the children!
